Miriam Hansen (NO)
Miriam Hansen works with plant-human relations with a focus on vegetal matter as subject and guide for her methods. Weaving together oral traditions, forum-posted trip-reports and the soothing confidence propagated by the wellness industry, her practice looks into questions of healing and legality, as well as moral and the idea of “the holistic” in contemporary society.
Her works manifest as temporal environments that allow for cycles of growth and decay, building material structures around the notions of empathy and care. By drawing parallels between historic writings (medicinal and magical) and systems for knowledge distribution online, Hansen explores how subjective experiences, rewritings, reinterpretations, and misunderstandings shape the narrative of botanical history as a template for myth-building.
