Victoria Alstrup (NO)
Victoria Alstrup (b. 1994) is a Norwegian visual artist. Alstrup works interdisciplinarily with painting, sculpture, video and installation.
While her work is inherently multifaceted and continues to expand into ever more media, Alstrups art-making originates from the vantage point of painting. Her work is concerned with staging economic and cultural structures through context-specific living installations and creating illusions of situations through media strategies and performative methodologies. In this context, Alstrups work engages with the market-oriented and commercial aspects of the art world, drawing parallels to the history of art and the fetishes of contemporary commodity culture.
The unstretched meter-long canvases are painted using a physical and explosive brushstroke technique, allowing her consciousness in the moment of painting to guide the expression. She is concerned with preserving history and reviving imprints from past experiences, and explores how fragments from previous and recent processes can be assembled.
The use of different techniques and exploration of spatial dynamics are essential characteristics of her artistic practice.
